Paddling on his surfboard in the swell off England’s south-west coast, Jeff Court has discovered one place where the British predilection for queuing does not apply.

“On a good day, there’s probably about 150 surfers out there. Unfortunately, the concept of a line-up is not exactly known here, and six people on a wave is not uncommon. There are no sharks, but you’re going to get wiped out by someone,” Court says.
