Fire Set by Lennox Hastie is also a thing of beauty, designed to be handed down for three generations. “It’s just the right balance of performance and aesthetics,” says Hastie, chef and owner of the wood-fuelled Firedoor in Sydney, who has made it his mission to cook with fire, smoke and glowing coals. “Usually you find that beautiful things aren’t practical.”
Fundamental to both good looks and versatility is the premium grade of New Zealand cast iron, renowned for its unparallelled heat retention. Hastie and Auckland-based The Ironclad Co. collaborated on the design and production of the 3.6-litre capacity Universal Dutch Oven.
