Can AI make you feel something?

Los Angeles may not be the first city you think of as trying to answer the big existential questions of our time, but two new downtown art venues are doing just that. Close in distance but miles apart in their approaches, Dataland and Hospital of Emotions offer different takes on art and life. Experiencing them both in one day is profound, thought-provoking and, honestly, a little jarring.

Dataland, which bills itself as “the world’s first Museum of AI Arts”, opened this month and is already polarising the art world. While tech types are excited about the potential it shows for the future of AI, many traditional artists are decrying it as little more than flashy theme-park entertainment.
