When did you first get into photography and why?
I got a small automatic film camera in my late teens and quickly became fascinated by the idea of capturing a moment exactly as I saw it. In the late 1980s, most teenagers had photo collages pinned to their bedroom walls and doors. Before smartphones, photography was how we documented friendships, holidays and life. What I loved most was the anticipation. You might wait weeks to get a roll of film developed. Then came the emotional rollercoaster: a handful of blurry photos, a few accidental shots of your feet and occasionally one image that felt like magic.
