Glittering ultramarine sea. Pastel-painted villages and lemons that glow like orbs on slender, waxy-leafed trees. For decades, this simple recipe has been the drawcard for Italy’s Amalfi Coast – a destination that guarantees a sun-drenched and sybaritic holiday. If only it weren’t for the traffic.
The drive from Naples to the Amalfi Coast – along winding roads that cling to the cliffside and have unspoilt dramatic sea views the whole way down – used to be part of the appeal.
