Forty-five minutes’ drive north of Sydney’s CBD, the view from the M1 opens onto the Hawkesbury – a broad sweep of water framed by bush-covered sandstone hills, with boats tucked into its bays. Many of us have driven over this river without a second thought. But next time you cross the Brooklyn Bridge, John Singleton wants you to take a moment.
“Why not shuck an oyster?” he asks. “Charter a boat down to Lion Island. Cast a line for kingfish or flathead – it’s a fishing paradise here. Slightly further afield you’ve got incredible beaches and surfing, beautiful walks that could take you all day and you wouldn’t see another person.”
