Emily Leiding says she’s being selfish. After a high-flying, almost three-decade career in marketing, fashion and tech, she’s cutting her corporate life short and at age 49 is retraining as a nurse.

“As much as [nursing] may seem like a much more giving thing than working at Microsoft, it’s something that I want to do for me,” Leiding says.
