Welcome To The Jungle Day 1: Akshay Kumar scores a bigger opening than Bhooth Bangla

Akshay Kumar's Welcome To The Jungle has registered a decent opening at the box office, collecting Rs 29 crore worldwide on its first day despite mixed reviews. The comedy entertainer also surpassed the opening-day collections of the actor's recent films Bhooth Bangla and Jolly LLB 3.

Akshay Kumar's latest comedy Welcome To The Jungle has kicked off its theatrical run on a respectable note. While the Ahmed Khan directorial has opened to mixed reviews, the film managed to post a solid Day 1 figure at the box office, registering a better opening than the actor's recent releases Bhooth Bangla and Jolly LLB 3.

According to the trade website Sacnilk, Welcome To The Jungle has wrapped up its first day with a worldwide gross collection of Rs 29 crore. The film earned Rs 6.50 crore in overseas markets, while its India gross collection stood at Rs 22.50 crore.

At the domestic box office, the third installment of the Welcome franchise collected Rs 15 crore nett on its opening day across 10,892 shows. The film's India nett collection currently stands at Rs 18.75 crore.

The opening puts the film ahead of Akshay Kumar's previous releases. Priyadarshan's Bhooth Bangla had collected Rs 12.25 crore nett on its first day from 12,386 shows. After adding premiere earnings of Rs 3.75 crore, the film's opening total stood at Rs 16 crore. Before that, Jolly LLB 3 had opened with Rs 12.50 crore.

Serving as the third chapter in the Welcome series after Welcome (2007) and Welcome Back (2015), the film reunites comedy, action and an ensemble cast on the big screen.

Directed by Ahmed Khan and written by Neeraj Vora, Welcome To The Jungle is produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, Rakesh Dang and Vedant Vikaas Baali under the banners of Base Industries Group, Cape of Good Films and Seeta Films.

The film stars Akshay Kumar in a double role alongside Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Aftab Shivdasani and Jackie Shroff. The film will now aim to capitalise on the weekend to strengthen its box office performance.
