Malayalam actor Kaviyoor Ponnamma dies at 79, Prithviraj pays tribute

Veteran Malayalam actor Kaviyoor Ponnamma has died. The senior actor had been battling cancer, according to reports. She was 79. Kaviyoor Ponnamma took her last breath in Kochi, Kerala.

Malayalam star and director Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a photo of the late artiste on his Instagram story and remembered her contribution to cinema.

Kaviyoor had begun her acting career by doing theatre. Over the years, she appeared in 1000 films. She was known for playing a mother figure to actors such as Mohanlal, Naseer and Mammootty in multiple Malayalam films.

Kaviyoor Ponnamma won the Kerala State Award not once, but four times during the course of her long-spanning career. She appeared in projects such as Thaniyavarthanam, Bharatham, and Sukrutham, among more.

The actor was married to scriptwriter Maniswami and is survived by her daughter Bindhu.
