The breakdown of late actor Om Puri's first marriage was marked by heartbreak, loss and a decision to walk away instead of fighting it in court. In a recent interview, actor and writer Seema Kapoor revisited that difficult chapter of her life, opening up about the actor's alleged affair, the loss of her unborn child and the apology he made years later.

Speaking to Hindi Rush, Seema recalled that her marriage to the late actor began to unravel after she discovered he had become involved with another woman while she was pregnant.

She said she left for her mother's home in Rajasthan after learning about the affair, a decision that eventually widened the distance between the couple.

Reflecting on one of the most painful moments of her life, Seema spoke about losing her unborn child.

"Unfortunately, my child did not survive. At that time, that child was very precious to me because Puri Sahab was not going to return to my life, and I was never going to marry again. That child was important to me, and it did not survive," she said.

She added that she coped with the grief by writing letters to the child she had lost.

Seema also revealed that her family wanted her to take legal action against Om Puri, particularly her brother, actor Annu Kapoor, who found it difficult to see her in pain.

"Everyone wanted me to take legal action against Om Puri, especially my brother Annu Kapoor. But I did not want to fight a legal battle," she said.

According to Seema, moving to Rajasthan created even more distance between her and Puri, while also giving Nandita Kapoor the opportunity to grow closer to him. She said the emotional turmoil deepened when, after losing her child, she received divorce papers from the actor.

Years later, however, Puri reached out to apologise.

Seema recalled that before undergoing a surgery in London, the actor called her to say he was sorry, unsure whether he would survive the procedure.

Om Puri married Seema Kapoor in 1991, but the marriage lasted less than a year. He later married Nandita Kapoor in 1993. Their marriage ended in a bitter separation in 2013. The actor died in January 2017 at the age of 66.
