Actor Kubbra Sait is set to return for Farzi Season 2 and said Sacred Games remains a big turning point in her journey. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, she spoke about how she looks at expectations today and why consistency matters to her.
Speaking about Farzi 2, Kubbra revealed that her commitment to the show was immediate. “All I can say is, I signed season one and season two, so you have to watch this, kids, I swear. They told me they were writing this character for season two. I said, ‘Done.’ They said, ‘You have to do season one first.’ I said, ‘Done.’ That was it, there was nothing more to think about,” she said.
Expressing pride in the project, she shared, “I’m very, very proud of the way the show has turned out, and I’m super excited for season two. I’m just glad I didn’t get killed off. I killed people, but I survived.”
Despite the high expectations that often accompany sequels, Kubbra maintains a grounded perspective. “When it comes to sequels and expectations, I don’t take that pressure. That’s Raj and DK’s job, Suman’s (Kumar) job, and Kishore’s job. Let them do it. I don’t stress about these things,” she said.
Reflecting on how her approach has changed over time, the actor admitted that pressure was once a factor. “Maybe when I was younger and naive, I did take pressure when I felt like the universe revolved around me. But when you know you’ve done your job honestly, you let it go. That belief has only reaffirmed itself over time,” the actor added.
Kubbra also addressed whether the industry understands her better today. “I think it takes time to understand people. When Sacred Games came out, it wasn't like I was new to the media. I was always trying my best,” she said.
Sharing an anecdote from her early days, she said, “I’m not kidding you, when I did Ready, I didn’t even know what PR stood for. I literally got people outside a restaurant to interview me because I was so clear that I wanted people to know me.”
She described the sudden shift that followed the release of Sacred Games: “Then one day, Sacred Games was released, and suddenly people were asking, questioning, and reporting things about me that I didn’t even know existed on the internet, and this was before AI.”
Calling it a turning point, Kubbra said, “That was a turning point, 100 percent. But I’ve just been going with the flow. I never wanted to be a one-hit wonder. I’ve always believed in consistency.”
According to her, the show played a crucial role in shaping her artistic outlook. “What Sacred Games did for me was build a curiosity for acting and a consistency in my craft. Since then, I’ve just been learning and doing my best. I think I’m evolving as an actor, and that’s what people are getting to know today,” the actor added.
She further noted, “My journey towards acting is about eight years old. Give me two more years, and I think I’ll be thriving. I don’t want to compete with others. What is that level of competition, really? I’d rather look at my own milestones and say, ‘Wow, I’ve done better than before,’ or ‘Given the circumstances, I did as well as I could.’”
“I want my cup to be full on its own. I want to operate from that space and be honest with my journey, rather than feel like I have something to prove to someone else. That’s where authenticity comes from. It took me a while to realise this, but there’s no timeline for it. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. You follow that path and discover so many things about yourself. That’s what this journey has been about,” Kubbra added.
She concluded by stating, “For me, it’s always been about saying, ‘This is who I am, I’m figuring it out, what do you think?’ It’s always been storytelling and conversation. And I truly feel that’s a privilege. I don’t take it lightly.”
Kubbra was last seen in Sankalp, starring Nana Patekar and Sanjay Kapoor, among others.
