Actor Sonu Mmishra, who appeared alongside Salman Khan in Sikandar, has claimed that he walked away from the controversial film Kala Hiran after allegedly being asked to speak against the Bollywood star as part of the project’s promotion.

Speaking to YouTube channel Bollywood Crazies, Sonu said he had initially been offered the lead role in Kala Hiran, a film reportedly inspired by the controversy surrounding Salman Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case. However, he alleged that after reviewing the project’s contract, he decided to quit because some of its requirements conflicted with his personal ethics.

Why did Sonu Mmishra leave Kala Hiran?

According to Sonu, he had already shot for two days before asking to see the script and formal contract. He claimed that the agreement included a clause requiring him to make public statements against Salman Khan while promoting the film.

“I was very excited for Kala Hiran. I got the opportunity to play superstar Salman Khan. I had started shooting as well. But as a narrative starts to take shape, you realise what the film’s intent is,” Sonu said.

He further alleged that the film sought to portray Salman in a negative light and that he chose not to be associated with such an approach.

Was Sonu afraid of Salman Khan?

The actor rejected suggestions that his decision stemmed from fear of Salman Khan or his influence in the industry.

Drawing a comparison with actors portraying controversial characters on screen, Sonu said performers are not defined by the roles they play. He maintained that his exit was based solely on ethical considerations rather than concern over any potential repercussions.

Why is Kala Hiran already facing controversy?

Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy is produced by Amit Jani under Jani FireFox Films and directed by Bharat S Shrinate. The film is reportedly based on the blackbuck poaching case linked to Salman Khan during the shooting of Hum Saath – Saath Hain in 1998.

The project has already attracted criticism from some of its former associates. Actor Govind Namdev recently distanced himself from the film, claiming he was unaware of how the lead character would ultimately be portrayed. Meanwhile, the controversy intensified after Salman Khan sent a legal notice to producer Amit Jani, who later publicly tore up the notice and alleged that he had received death threats.
