  • Cake renamed as 'CM Cake' by customers

A cake that featured at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay's 52nd birthday celebration has found a new fan base in Chennai. Nearly a month after a picture from the celebration went viral, the baker behind one of the cakes says she has sold around 300 to 400 of the same mango vanilla cake.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Chennai-based baker Tanvi Bokaria said the sudden demand came after the cake was spotted in the birthday picture shared by actor Trisha on June 22. The post showed Trisha and Vijay smiling together and was captioned, “To the person who makes it all worthy. HBD (sic).”

It came a day after Trisha reportedly unfollowed Vijay on Instagram, adding to the online attention around the post.

While fans closely examined the picture and its details, the cakes featured in the celebration also became a talking point. Bokaria's mango vanilla cake, in particular, soon began attracting orders from Vijay fans across Chennai.

“This was overnight fame for us. We had no idea what occasion the cake was for. It was incredibly special, and it completely caught me off guard. The last two weeks have been extremely chaotic with sales, but I'm grateful for it,” Bokaria told India Today. She added, “My team are huge fans of CM Joseph Vijay.”

According to Bokaria, around 300 to 400 orders for the same cake have been placed in the past two weeks.

“We've sold around 300 to 400 of those CM Vijay birthday cakes in just a couple of weeks. It was absolutely nuts!” she said.

The cake has also received a new name among customers. Originally sold as a mango cake, it is now popularly known as the “CM Cake”.

“It's not called the Mango Cake any more. It's now called the CM Cake. That's how customers place their orders now: ‘Can we get the CM Cake?’” Bokaria said.

She added that this was the highest number of orders her team had received for a single cake since Vijay got it for his birthday.

The cake became part of the wider online conversation around Vijay and Trisha after the actor's birthday post. Fans closely examined the picture and tried to identify the cakes seen at the celebration.

According to social media users, the tiramisu cake was from Patisserie Concu cafe in Hyderabad, while the strawberry white chocolate cake was identified as being from Chennai's The Chef House. Bokaria's mango vanilla cake was also identified by fans.

Some fans even speculated about the number of cakes in the picture and attached their own meaning to the details. However, these interpretations remain unverified.

The renewed attention around Vijay and Trisha has now given one of the birthday cakes a life of its own. What began as a cake served at a private birthday celebration has, within two weeks, become a popular order in Chennai, where customers now simply ask for the “CM Cake”.

In recent months, both Vijay and Trisha have repeatedly found themselves at the centre of online speculation about their personal relationship. Neither has publicly responded to such claims. Their long-standing friendship continues to be widely discussed by fans, with renewed interest emerging after details related to Vijay’s divorce proceedings with estranged wife Sankgeetha Sornalingam entered the public domain.
