Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has said a biopic based on his life is in the works, with the project currently in the scripting stage and the makers yet to finalise the lead actor. He also said actor Ranveer Singh had once approached him to play the role and had travelled to London to discuss the film with him.

Speaking to ANI, Modi said, “Ranveer wants to play me and he came to see me. I would like him to play, only if he has the time as now he has become so big. I didn't know Ranveer, I knew Deepika very well back then. I never met him. One day, I get a call saying Ranveer wants to see you. And he comes to London to see me two years ago.”

Modi said he was unsure whether Ranveer Singh would still be interested in the project after the actor's success with Dhurandhar, but added that he continued to admire his work.

“He said in his life, if there was one role he wanted to play, it would be Lalit Modi as commissioner. It wasn't me asking him. I think he's great. Without doubt, he's amazing. And what he has done with Dhurandhar is amazing,” Modi said.

The former businessman said that the biopic is still being written and that a detailed research process is under way.

Remarks on Sushmita Sen

In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, Modi defended Sushmita Sen over 'gold digger' tags and said she had built her success on her own. He said, “Sushmita is a beautiful, successful and self-made woman. She has more diamonds than almost anyone I know, and she earned everything herself. She even had diamond stores.”

He also said the Aarya actor was never financially dependent on him during their time together. He described himself as a “diamond digger”.

Beyond his role in the IPL, Modi held other positions in domestic cricket administration, including president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association and vice-president of the Punjab Cricket Association.
