When Vaibhav Gupta won Indian Idol 14 two years back, in an interview with India Today, he had spoken about his desire to sing for Ranveer Singh. Cut to 2026, and the singer has voiced Mann Atkeya, a song picturised on the actor in Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Speaking exclusively to us again, Vaibhav reminisced his statement, sharing that maybe the universe was snooping on the conversation.
A chance to sing for Ranveer Singh
“I remember that Ranveer was the first name I took when people asked me who I wanted to sing for. It was me manifesting this, I feel. When I went to watch the first Dhurandhar film with a friend, he casually told me that he wished I had sung in the film. We were so blown away by the music that I wished the same for myself. I think manifestations work, and here I am living both my dreams,” Vaibhav said.
Meeting Ranveer Singh for the first time
If singing for Ranveer was a dream, meeting him added to the surrealness. The singer shared that he saw the superstar at the album launch, and the world shifted for him.
“I was shooting for an interview byte when Ranveer Singh entered, I was just amazed looking at him. Then on stage, he met me, gave me a warm hug and complimented me on my performance. He even knew my name, and later followed me on Instagram. All of it just happened so quickly that I am still processing it. He is this massive star for a reason; he’s so warm and welcoming.”
Being discovered for Dhurandhar: The Revenge
Sharing more about how he bagged Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the singer said that musician Shashwat Sachdeva saw one of his reels on Instagram and contacted him.
“He had even seen my performance on Indian Idol, and he called me just to hear me sing without any technicalities. We met at Aditya Dhar’s house, and I was shocked at his knowledge of classical music. Many may not know, but Aditya sir plays the sitar. He has an ear for music, and had the best feedback on how to modulate my voice when we recorded. It was amazing to work with him, as he guided me throughout. Also, honestly, seeing them work so hard changed me as a professional, too.”
On future opportunities in playback singing
On a final note, Vaibhav added that while he has been singing scratches for music directors, he is working hard to bag his next big song.
“The best thing is that the songs I sang from my heart have reached the music directors. They have sent me personal messages; they have called me; they have told me that they haven’t heard a voice like mine in a long time. So I am hopeful that you will hear some amazing songs from my side in the future,” he added.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge released in theatres on March 19.
