Actor Benedict Cumberbatch was seen in a heated exchange with a cyclist on a London street in a recent, undated video published by British tabloid The Sun. The clip showed the two trading barbs over an alleged traffic incident, with Cumberbatch accusing the cyclist of verbally abusing him and the cyclist accusing the actor of breaking traffic rules.
According to the report, the argument lasted for about 10 minutes before both men went their separate ways. No charges were filed. An eyewitness said the scene drew attention from people nearby, including fans and school children who recognised the actor.
In the video, Cumberbatch, wearing a grey jacket, is standing beside a cyclist whose face is covered by a cap and a mask. The cyclist is heard saying, “You’re deluded, you’re lying. I was behind you the entire time.” Cumberbatch replies, “Dude, you verbally abused me.” The cyclist then accuses him of several violations, saying, “You went through a zebra crossing, you went through three lights.”
The eyewitness quoted in the report said, “It was crazy. It was such a pompous road rage that it almost felt like it had been staged. Benedict still managed to charm everyone watching, even though he was having a meltdown. The masked guy was obviously some kind of vigilante – he was really taken aback when he saw it was Benedict Cumberbatch, but he doubled down on his rage.” The report also said Cumberbatch remained polite to fans and onlookers despite being agitated. The eyewitness added, “These school kids asked, ‘is that Dr Strange?’ Benedict said, ‘not at the moment, in a minute’; he was lovely with them, they were awe-struck.”
Cumberbatch, 49, first became widely known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock, which ran for four seasons from 2010 to 2017 and earned him an Emmy Award. He later became globally recognisable as Doctor Strange after joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016. He returned as the character in two Avengers films, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. His upcoming projects include Wife and Dog, Blood on Snow, Rogue Male, Morning and Last Flight. Reports have also said he will not return as Doctor Strange in the upcoming MCU film Avengers: Doomsday.
