As Vijay took the oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, several film stars congratulated him on social media. Pawan Kalyan, Kamal Haasan and R Madhavan were among the celebrities who reacted to his big political moment.

Several film personalities congratulated actor-turned-politician Vijay after he took oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday. Pawan Kalyan, R Madhavan, Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj were among the actors who shared messages for him on social media.

Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with 108 seats. The party defeated DMK and AIADMK, the two Dravidian parties that had ruled the state since the 1960s.

Congratulatory messages on social media

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, who is also a deputy Chief Minister, congratulated Vijay and the ministers who took oath with him. "I wish the new government would fulfil the aspirations of the people, ensure transparent and progressive governance, and lead Tamil Nadu towards greater growth and prosperity (sic)," he wrote on X.

Madhavan shared Vijay’s picture on Instagram and wished him the very best. He said he hoped Vijay’s tenure as Chief Minister would be rewarding and impactful for the state, and added that he was proud of him. In the caption too, Madhavan wrote, "God bless you and sooooo proud of you (sic)."

Kamal Haasan wrote in Tamil on X to congratulate Vijay after the swearing-in. He said he hoped Tamil Nadu would shine under the leadership of the Tamil Nadu Victory League president and Chief Minister, and reach new heights.

Prakash Raj also congratulated Vijay and wrote, "Wishing you the best to succeed in your new responsibility . May the state thrive in your governance too (sic)."

Film industry presence at the ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony also saw a strong presence from the film industry. Political leaders, party workers, co-stars, family members, producers and longtime collaborators attended the event. Supporters gathered outside the stadium and raised slogans, while the guest list inside reflected Vijay’s long journey in Tamil cinema before taking on his new role.

Among those present were Trisha, who has worked with Vijay in about five films and Vijay’s parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar.

Producer KL Narayana was also present at the ceremony. He is producing Vijay’s last film Jana Nayagan. The release date of the film, which has been in limbo over CBFC certification, is yet to be announced.
