Actor Patrick Muldoon, best known for his long-running role in Days of Our Lives as Austin Reed, died on Sunday morning (April 19) after suffering a heart attack, according to Deadline. He was 57.
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon graduated from the University of Southern California, where he was also part of the Trojans football team. He began his acting career while still in college with a two-episode appearance on the sitcom Who’s the Boss? and soon after landed a recurring role in Saved By the Bell following his graduation in 1991.
Over the years, Muldoon built a steady career across television and film, appearing in projects such as Super Troopers, Saving Christmas, and Melrose Place.
However, he gained widespread recognition for his role in the popular soap opera Days of Our Lives, where he portrayed Austin Reed from 1992 to 1995 and later reprised the role from 2011 to 2012.
Apart from acting, Muldoon also worked as an executive producer on several films including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Marlowe, Arkansas, The Dreadful, and The Card Counter. His upcoming film Dirty Hands is scheduled to release later this year.
According to Deadline, Muldoon was also passionate about music. He was often seen with his guitar and served as the lead singer of the band The Sleeping Masses.
He is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart, parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr, sister and brother-in-law Shana and Ahmet Zappa, and their children, niece Halo and nephew Arrow Zappa.
