  • Peddi crosses Rs 100 crore worldwide on opening day
  • Ram Charan scores big after RRR with this sports action drama
  • Film earns Rs 82.49 crore in India and Rs 30 crore overseas

After a long wait for a post-RRR box office winner, Ram Charan appears to have found one in Peddi. The actor's latest sports action drama got off to a strong start worldwide, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark on its opening day and giving Telugu cinema one of its biggest launches in recent times.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi grossed Rs 112.49 crore worldwide on Day 1, becoming the 11th Telugu film to record an opening of over Rs 100 crore globally.

The opening holds added significance for Ram Charan, who had been looking for a major theatrical success after RRR. While the actor enjoyed global recognition following the blockbuster, his previous release, Game Changer, failed to meet box-office expectations.

Of Peddi's worldwide gross, approximately Rs 82.49 crore came from the Indian market, including collections from the paid preview shows held on Wednesday. The film earned another Rs 30 crore from overseas territories. Its India nett collection currently stands at Rs 69.50 crore.

Interestingly, the film had already amassed close to Rs 40 crore worldwide through paid previews before its official release. The strong turnout on Thursday pushed it comfortably past the Rs 100 crore milestone.

Since Baahubali 2: The Conclusion became the first Telugu film to cross Rs 100 crore worldwide on its opening day, only a handful of films have managed the feat. For Ram Charan, Peddi marks his second entry into the club after RRR, which opened to an impressive Rs 223 crore gross globally. The film also starred Jr NTR and was directed by SS Rajamouli.

The Telugu version has driven the bulk of ticket sales so far. While audience reactions have been mixed in some quarters, the film has generated strong momentum across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where theatres witnessed celebratory scenes on opening day.

Trade observers note that the film's response has been significantly stronger than that of Game Changer, despite higher ticket prices in several markets.

Going by its opening-day trend, Peddi is expected to gross between Rs 200 crore and Rs 250 crore worldwide by the end of its first weekend, positioning it as a much-needed commercial success for both Ram Charan and the Telugu film industry.

Peddi stars Ram Charan in the role of a sportsperson and also features Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Boman Irani and Divyenndu in key roles.
