Nearly 20 years after Salaam-e-Ishq hit theatres, director Nikkhil Advani is reportedly ready to revisit the world of romance with a sequel to the multi-starrer drama. According to reports, the filmmaker is planning Salaam-e-Ishq 2, which could also launch a larger franchise built around interconnected love stories and relationships.

The original film, released in 2007, became popular for bringing together multiple couples and emotional narratives in one story. While it received mixed reactions during its theatrical run, its songs and emotional moments continued to find a strong fan following over the years.

According to Variety India, the upcoming sequel will centre on three couples whose lives become linked through destiny and relationships. The film is expected to explore modern-day romance and focus on themes like emotional baggage, commitment issues, societal expectations and personal conflicts.

Reports further suggest that the makers are aiming for a more contemporary approach to storytelling while retaining the emotional tone of the first film. The screenplay is currently being developed, and the project is likely to go on floors sometime next year.

The sequel will also mark Nikkhil Advani’s return to the romance genre after a long gap. The filmmaker has largely focused on action dramas, thrillers and web series in recent years.

The first Salaam-e-Ishq featured one of the biggest ensemble casts of its time, including Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna and Sohail Khan.

Meanwhile, Nikkhil Advani is also preparing for the release of his upcoming historical drama series The Revolutionaries, which will stream on Prime Video later this year.

The show stars Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta, Gurfateh Pirzada and Jason Shah, and is adapted from Sanjeev Sanyal’s book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom.
