  • The makers have not yet officially announced the sequel's release date
  • Reports say June to August options were weighed before latest shift
  • Similar scheduling changes are being reported for Suriya and Soori films

Postponement reports surrounding star-led films have increasingly become common, and the latest film to join the speculation is Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. While earlier reports suggested that the sequel was targeting an August 2026 release, fresh buzz now indicates a slight delay in plans.

According to a Pinkvilla report, the makers of Jailer 2, who reportedly considered multiple release dates between June and August, are now expected to release the film on September 4, coinciding with the occasion of Krishna Jayanthi. Although the makers are yet to make any official announcement regarding the release date, reports suggest the film may have been pushed by a few weeks from its initially planned window.

Interestingly, the reshuffling of release dates appears to be affecting several major Tamil films. Recent reports also suggested that Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons could move from July to August 2026, while Soori’s Mandadi is also rumoured to be eyeing a similar release period.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 will see Rajinikanth return as Muthuvel Pandian following the success of the first film. The sequel also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu in key roles. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are also expected to reprise their cameo appearances.

Earlier, reports suggested that Shah Rukh Khan was approached for a cameo in the film. However, due to commitments to his upcoming film King, the actor reportedly declined the offer.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also attached to multiple upcoming projects, including the tentatively titled Thalaivar 173. The project has reportedly undergone several changes, particularly regarding its director, with recent reports suggesting Dragon fame Ashwath Marimuthu as the latest name under consideration.

Following this, Rajinikanth will reunite with Nelson Dilipkumar once again, this time for a project also featuring Kamal Haasan, which is expected to begin next year.
