Actor Soori's Mandaadi to arrive on Netflix this week after Rs 150-crore haul

Actor Soori's Mandaadi will begin streaming on Netflix on October 8 after a strong theatrical run. Its box-office milestones and praise from leading film personalities have amplified the film's breakout run.

Actor Soori's recently released film, Mandaadi, which emerged as the biggest commercial success of his career as a lead, is set to arrive on Netflix this week after a strong theatrical run. Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, the Tamil film will begin streaming on October 8, following a theatrical run that saw it cross Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu and Rs 150 crore worldwide.

The film reached another box-office milestone on Monday, with Soori taking to X to celebrate its performance. Sharing the achievement, the actor said Mandaadi had crossed Rs 100 crore gross in Tamil Nadu, while its worldwide gross had surpassed Rs 150 crore.

“The Mandaadi Victory is getting more thunderous! The Biggest Blockbuster of the Year, Mandaadi, has crossed Rs 100+ Crores Gross in Tamil Nadu, while the Worldwide Gross has surpassed Rs 150+ Crores! The Mandaadi Vaigaiyara Celebrations are only getting BIGGER! The Thiruvizha continues!” Soori wrote.

The official X handle of Netflix India South shared the poster of Mandaadi with its streaming date. The film will be available for streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

What is Mandaadi all about?

Mandaadi revolves around a traditional sailboat race practised along the Tamil Nadu coastline. Soori plays Muthukaali, a skilled boat racer whose life takes a different turn before circumstances bring him back to the sport. Suhas plays his rival, with the story built around the rivalry between two teams and the high stakes surrounding the annual race.

The film’s rooted setting, action sequences and large-scale boat-racing portions became major talking points among audiences. The cast also includes Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan and Stun Siva, among others.

Mandaadi had already emerged as the highest-grossing film of Soori’s career in a lead role before reaching these latest milestones. The film’s theatrical success also earned praise from several prominent names in the Tamil film industry.

Director Vetri Maaran, who worked with Soori in the Viduthalai films and played an important role in his transition to leading roles, praised the actor’s dedication to the project. Kamal Haasan also met the Mandaadi team following a special screening and appreciated the film, particularly its writing and dialogues. Soori later described his meeting with Kamal as one of the most unforgettable moments of his life. Rajinikanth was also among those who praised the team.

Produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner, Mandaadi has music by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by SR Kathir and editing by Pradeep E Ragav. The sailing sequences were mounted on a considerable scale, with stunt choreographers Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbarayan and Mahesh Mathew overseeing the action portions.
