Actor Priyanka Chopra spoke about gender bias around household responsibilities, saying cooking and cleaning should not be treated as women’s work. She said such tasks are life skills and should not be tied to gender.
During an interview at Cannes Lions, Priyanka challenged attitudes around gender roles at home. She said that in many households, cooking, cleaning and managing day-to-day responsibilities are still viewed as a woman’s job.
Expressing her view on the issue, the actor said, "Cleaning and cooking aren’t women’s work. They’re basic adulting. Don’t confuse gender with laziness."
The 43-year-old also spoke about the changing phase of cinema and storytelling across the globe. While praising the success of the Hollywood supernatural horror, Obsession, Priyanka highlighted that with technology, it has become easier for people to create.
"If you wanted to get into filmmaking, you used to have to figure out what department you wanted to be in. It was really hard to get into the industry,” the actor said. Now, if you “feel like you have an idea, shoot it, put it on YouTube, and it can become Obsession, the movie that just came out right now. What a wonderful time to be an entertainer, to be in the entertainment business," she added.
On the work front, she is set to collaborate with actor Angelina Jolie in a film. In an interview with Fortune India, Priyanka revealed that she is set to work with Angelina on a new project. However, she remained tight-lipped about the details, choosing not to disclose whether the collaboration is a film, a commercial campaign, or a philanthropic initiative.
The actor is also set to launch her next venture alongside Orlando Bloom, while her reference to Angelina has already created significant buzz.
Priyanka will also be seen in director SS Rajamouli's upcoming film, Varanasi, featuring actors Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
