Suriya not interested in politics: Actor's fan club clarifies ex-member's remark

The All India Suriya Fans Club said actor Suriya has no plans to enter politics after remarks by former member R Veeramani triggered speculation. The organisation said his comments were personal and urged people to ignore rumours.

Actor Suriya has no plans to enter politics, the All India Suriya Fans Club said in a statement issued on Monday after remarks by speaker and former member R Veeramani at a recent state-district administrators’ meeting triggered speculation on social media.

The clarification came after Veeramani said at the meeting, "If time decides, if God decides, no one can stop someone from becoming a people’s leader," prompting discussion over whether Suriya was preparing for a political entry. Veeramani later released a video clarification as well.

In their statement, the fans club said Veeramani had made it clear that his views were his "personal opinion". It said his remarks were being circulated with a "wrong interpretation", creating the impression that they reflected the organisation’s official position.

The club also said Veeramani has not been part of its administration for the past three years and urged people not to believe rumours being spread online.

Reiterating Suriya’s position, the statement said, "Mr. Suriya has no intention of coming into politics. Through the Agaram Foundation and his welfare initiatives, continuing social service for the people gives him great happiness and fulfilment."

The fan club requested everyone not to believe the rumours spreading on social media and to follow only the official announcements of the fan club.

On the work front, Suriya was recently seen in director RJ Balaji's Karuppu, which grossed Rs 300 crore worldwide. The actor recently wrapped up work on director Venky Atluri's Vishwanath and Sons. At present, he is shooting for director Jithu Madhavan's untitled film and has a film with director TJ Gnanavel's film in the pipeline.
