A woman from Hyderabad shared a disturbing experience on a public cycling track, alleging that a man engaged in an obscene act in front of her, which raised fresh concerns about women’s safety in the city.
In the now-viral video circulating on social media, the woman was seen walking along the track as she narrated the incident. She said the episode took place around 6:15 am, adding that the area was usually crowded at that hour.
“I was standing, and it was like 6 o'clock and at 6.:15 this guy was engaging in an obscene act at the cycle track...it’s crowded,” she says, expressing shock at what she witnessed.
She added that she tried to capture the moment but missed recording the man’s face by a fraction of a second. “I wish my camera would have opened like 2 milliseconds earlier. I could have shown his face,” she says, saying that the man left the spot soon after.
Visibly shaken, she also addressed the broader issue of safety for women in public spaces. Questioning the constant scrutiny women face, she said, “What else am I supposed to wear? I’m running.. I don’t even come before sunrise. I always come after sunrise.” She further explained how she timed her runs carefully to avoid isolated hours, yet still didn't feel safe.
She also spoke about discomfort during daily commutes, alleging that even while travelling, she often faced unwanted attention. “This is supposed to be a safe space. Isn’t it Hyderabad?” she asks towards the end of the clip.
