'Kalki 2898 AD' box office Day 2: Prabhas's film earns Rs 298 crore worldwide

Prabhas's 'Kalki 2898 AD' opened to a mammoth figure of Rs 191.5 crore globally. On Day 2, the film earned a whopping Rs 298 crore worldwide. Nag Ashwin's magnum opus also stars Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Saswata Chatterjee and Kamal Haasan in key roles.

On Day 1, 'Kalki 2898 AD' earned Rs 95.30 crore in India and Rs 191.5 crore, globally. As per a Sacnilk report, the film earned Rs 54 crore on Day 2, taking the second-day collection to Rs 149.30 crore net. As per a post on the film's official Instagram handle, 'Kalki 2898 AD' minted Rs 298. 50 crore worldwide.

The Telugu version of the film recorded an occupancy of 65.02 per cent in India on June 28, Friday. The film is expected to have a four-day weekend of around Rs 500 crore.

Produced on an enormous budget of Rs 600 crore by Vyjayanthi Movies, this film features music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.

Director Nag Ashwin's 'Kalki 2898 AD' is a sci-fi dystopian film, derived from Hindu mythology. At a press conference, the filmmaker spoke about why he named the film 'Kalki 2898 AD'. He said, "Our film starts in Mahabharat and ends in 2898. That's the title of the film. It's called 'Kalki 2898 AD'. It spans 6000 years sort of distance in time."

He further added, "We are trying to create the worlds that are there, imagining what it could be like. We will still keep it Indian and our challenge is not to make it look like 'Blade Runner'."

Apart from Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, the film also features Disha Patani, Pasupathy, Shobana, Anna Ben, and others. SS Rajamouli, Vijay Deverakonda, Ram Gopal Varma, Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur play cameos in the film.
