Veteran singer Asha Bhosle has been hospitalised due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection, according to a health update shared by her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle on social media.

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, April 11, 2026 due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. The health update about the 92-year-old singer was shared by her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, who requested privacy for the family during this time.

Zanai, in her X post, wrote, "My grandmother, Asha Bhosle due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively (sic)."

In an earlier report, Dr Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital said the veteran singer was admitted following the cardiac arrest and remains under care in the Emergency Medical Services unit. Further updates from Bhosle's family or the hospital are awaited.

Continuing the Mangeshkar-Bhosle legacy

Zanai Bhosle is an emerging singer, musician, and actor, carrying forward the illustrious legacy of the Mangeshkar-Bhosle family. The daughter of Anand and Ahuja Bhosle, she is the granddaughter of Asha Bhosle and a grand-niece of the late Lata Mangeshkar.

Trained in both Indian classical music and Western opera, Zanai has collaborated with AR Rahman and released contemporary tracks like Aadatein (2026). She is also set to make her high-profile acting debut in the historical epic The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, essaying the role of Rani Sai Bhonsale. Zanai is also a talented Kathak dancer and a cousin of actor Shraddha Kapoor.

Asha Bhosle's legacy

The legendary singer is the last surviving icon from Bollywood's golden era of music of the fiftes, sixties and the seventies, which comprised Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Manna Dey and Bhosle herself.

Sister of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, Bhosle is a member of the prominent Mangeshkar family. She was renowned for her soprano voice and versatility, performing across genres including film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, and Rabindra Sangeet. She sang in over 20 Indian and foreign languages.
