Alia Bhatt-Sharvari Wagh’s much-awaited action entertainer Alpha will now arrive in theatres a week ahead of its original schedule. The film has been preponed from July 10 to July 3 after Dhamaal 4 moved its release date to July 17.
A source close to the development told India Today that producer Aditya Chopra saw an opportunity in the relatively open release window, and decided to pull the release ahead. They are also very confident about the film and want it to have a good breathing space.
“Alpha has already seen quite a many delays, and the studio wants to give it a grand release. The film is quite anticipated by fans as of now, with social media chatters adding to the buzz. With no major release planned for July 3, the makers felt it was the right date to release the film,” the source said.
It’s also pertinent to note that the move could also work in Alpha’s favour at the box office given that the film will now enjoy two weeks to make the most of an open run. Also it could benefit from being a genre breaking offering, since Alpha will come between two comedies — Welcome to the Jungle (June 26) and Dhamaal 4.
Part of the YRF Spy Universe, Alpha also features Bobby Deol.
