Music maestro AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu's announcement of their separation raised several questions regarding the custody of their three children. Lawyer Vandana Shah, who is representing Saira Banu, recently discussed the matter during an interview with Vicky Lalwani on his YouTube channel.
When asked about the children's custody, Vandana stated that the decision is yet to be made. She mentioned that some of the children are adults and free to decide where they wish to reside.
On the topic of alimony, Vandana chose not to comment but defended Saira, asserting that she is not driven by financial motives.
Vandana did not dismiss the possibility of reconciliation, expressing her optimism about love and romance. She highlighted that the joint statement from the couple reflects the pain of separation but does not rule out reconciliation.
“I have not said that reconciliation is not possible. I am an eternal optimist, and I always talk about love and romance. The joint statement is quite clear. It talks about pain and separation. It's a long marriage and a lot of thought has gone into coming to this decision, but nowhere have I said that reconciliation is not possible,” Vandana Shah shared.
Earlier this month, AR Rahman and Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage, attributing it to significant emotional strain. Married in 1995, they are parents to Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. The couple has requested privacy and released a joint statement through their lawyer, explaining the emotional challenges that led to their decision. Despite their deep love, they acknowledged an insurmountable gap created by tensions which they are unable to bridge at present. The couple's lawyer mentioned that they are working towards an amicable divorce.
