A woman in Malaysia jumped out of a moving taxi on a busy highway after she feared she was in danger due to the driver’s alleged behaviour.

Dramatic footage circulating online showed the passenger suddenly opening the car door and throwing herself onto the road while the vehicle was still in motion. The impact sent her belongings, including her phone and shoes, scattering across the highway as motorists in the vicinity braked abruptly to avoid hitting her.

The incident is said to have taken place on the morning of May 1 on a highway. The woman later told authorities that she panicked during the ride, claiming she believed the driver had been watching her repeatedly through the rear-view mirror without explanation, The Sun reports.

According to North Klang district police chief Vijaya Rao, the passenger’s anxiety escalated to the point where she decided to jump from the vehicle, landing on the road and sustaining minor injuries. The driver, a 47-year-old man, immediately brought the taxi to a halt.

Footage from the scene also shows the woman, now barefoot, running after the vehicle before approaching another passenger who had also exited the cab. A motorist stopped to assist and helped take her to a clinic for treatment.

Police said the driver has since cancelled the trip and filed a report. Authorities are attempting to locate the woman as part of their investigation into the incident, according to The Sun report.

Officials said that if wrongdoing is established, the driver could face charges under provisions of Malaysia’s Penal Code related to actions that endanger life or personal safety.
