Actor Rajesh Sharma suffered an insect bite while shooting for a film starring Prabhas at Ramoji Film City, according to an official statement shared on social media by actor Sudipa Chatterjee. The bite was suspected to be from a bug or a poisonous spider. The 45-year-old actor is now under treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

Chatterjee said Sharma is not yet out of danger. He continues to suffer from high fever, breathlessness and a fast-spreading infection in his right leg, while doctors closely monitor his condition and carry out further investigations and treatment.

According to the statement, the incident took place after pack-up, when Sharma was speaking to local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation. He felt an insect bite at the time, but it did not appear serious, and he did not seek immediate medical attention.

About six hours later, he began to feel severe pain in his right leg and also felt unwell. Despite this, he boarded a flight back to Kolkata. During the journey, he developed a high fever, became increasingly restless, and his condition worsened further.

The following day, Sharma was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria. The statement said that more than a day had passed since then, and he was still battling high fever, breathlessness and a rapidly progressing infection in his right leg. It added that the infection had spread from his toes to his knee, with large blisters developing over the affected area.

Referring to the medical situation, the statement said Dr Avijit Bhattacharya had advised that it was too early to make any definite assessment. It added, “Rajesh remains under close observation and is not yet out of danger.”

Doctors are also watching for possible complications, including the risk of a blood clot that could become life-threatening if it travels to the lungs.

Chatterjee said a further medical update would be shared after the hospital team issued an official assessment. She also thanked those who had extended support, including the media, the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum, Sharma’s friends and well-wishers, and “above all, Shri Prosenjit Chatterjee”, whom she described as a constant source of guidance and support during this difficult time.

Sharma is known for his work in Hindi films including Khosla Ka Ghosla, Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica, Chillar Party, The Dirty Picture, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, Special 26, B.A. Pass, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, M.
