  • The actor reveals his cameo was an experimental role
  • Karuppu editor Kalaivanan had earlier promised that the deleted footage would be released separately

After its successful theatrical run and OTT debut, discussions about Suriya's Karuppu continue among fans, particularly over the scenes that never made it to the final cut. One of the biggest talking points has been Arya's cameo, which was heavily rumoured before release but was absent from both the theatrical and streaming versions of the film.

The actor has now addressed the matter while promoting his upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Ananthan Kaadu.

Opening up about his deleted appearance in Karuppu, Arya revealed that he had shot for a small experimental role in the Suriya-starrer. The actor said director RJ Balaji later called him to explain that the sequence did not fit into the film's larger narrative. "He said it didn't work out in the larger scheme of things in the film and informed me before removing my scenes from it. We will work together later on another project," Arya added.

His comments echo what Karuppu editor Kalaivanan had shared earlier. The editor had revealed that apart from Arya's role, scenes featuring Kaali Venkat, and references to Vijay's The GOAT and Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor were also removed from the final version. Actor Swasika had also revealed that some of her scenes did not make it to theatres.

Karuppu stars Suriya in the role of a guardian deity, Karuppusami, who descends to Earth to help a family in distress before taking on a corrupt legal system. The film emerged as a major commercial success and marked Suriya's first film to reportedly cross the Rs 300-crore mark worldwide.

Meanwhile, Arya is gearing up for the release of Ananthan Kaadu, the upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual action thriller directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar. The actor was last seen in Manu Anand's Mr X and also has Pa Ranjith's Vettuvam in the pipeline.
