Actor Ranveer Singh is reportedly developing a film adaptation of Amish Tripathi's The Immortals of Meluha, in what could become one of the biggest projects of his career. According to Pinkvilla, the actor, who plans to play Lord Shiva in the series, has acquired the rights to the book under his production banner, Maa Kasam Film. He has partnered with Birla Studios to turn the mythological story into a trilogy.

With speculation continuing around Ranveer's next move after the success of Dhurandhar, the report said the project is now in the writing stage. Ranveer and Ananya Birla are said to be actively working on the adaptation, while the team focusses on building the screenplay and the larger world of the franchise.

Meluha adaptation in development

The report quoted a source close to the production as saying, "Ranveer has been passionate about bringing Meluha to the big screen for a long time now. The acquisition happened recently, and the project is now officially under development. Makers are approaching the franchise as a long-term cinematic universe and the plan is to tell the story over three films. The writing work has already begun, and the team is taking its time to crack the screenplay and world-building. The first part is expected to go on floors in 2028."

The report also said Ranveer Singh is expected to play Lord Shiva in the trilogy. The rest of the cast has not been finalised yet, and the makers are currently focusing on the script before taking a call on the director.

On that, the source added, "The director will only be locked once the script work reaches a certain stage. Right now, the focus is entirely on developing the material."

Ranveer’s reported line-up before Meluha

Ranveer is believed to have acquired the rights to The Immortals of Meluha for a hefty amount, though the exact figure has not been disclosed. Before starting work on the first film in the trilogy, he is expected to begin shooting for Aditya Dhar's next directorial venture in March 2027.

He also has Pralay, directed by Jay Mehta, which is tentatively expected to go on floors in August 2026. An official announcement on that project is still awaited.

Personal front

Meanwhile, on the personal front, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are expecting their second child. A few days ago, a leaked video from the set of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer King showed Deepika, who is pregnant, shooting for the film in South Africa, while Ranveer stood nearby holding baby Dua in his arms.

For now, The Immortals of Meluha adaptation remains in the writing stage, with Ranveer reportedly set to headline the trilogy as Lord Shiva. With casting and the director yet to be locked, the makers appear to be taking time to shape the material before the first film goes on floors in 2028.
