The rise of OTT platforms has changed the entertainment industry and created opportunities for talented actors from different backgrounds. Interestingly, several popular OTT stars once had stable and well-paying careers in engineering, corporate firms, teaching and other professions before leaving everything behind to pursue acting. Here’s a look at some actors who took a leap of faith and found success on screen.

Jitendra Kumar

Before becoming a household name as Jeetu Bhaiya, Jitendra Kumar studied Civil Engineering at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. While pursuing his degree, he became actively involved in theatre through the Hindi Technology Dramatics Society. His passion for acting eventually led him to TVF, where he started appearing in digital sketches.

Choosing acting over a conventional engineering career proved to be the right decision. Today, Jitendra is known for acclaimed shows such as TVF Pitchers, Kota Factory and Panchayat.

Amol Parashar

Popular for playing Chitvan Sharma in TVF Tripling, Amol Parashar is another IIT graduate who left a promising corporate career behind. He completed his Mechanical Engineering degree from IIT Delhi and later worked at global consulting firm ZS Associates.

Despite having a stable and rewarding job, Amol decided to pursue his creative ambitions. He began with television commercials before making a mark in web series and films, including Sardar Udham.

Rannvijay Singha

Before becoming a television personality and actor, Rannvijay Singha was working in the United States. After graduating from Delhi University's Hansraj College, he moved to New Jersey and worked for a construction company.

His career took a dramatic turn when he returned to India to participate in the first season of MTV Roadies in 2003. After winning the show, he chose to stay in the entertainment industry and later appeared in projects including Mismatched.

Manoj Bajpayee

Manoj Bajpayee's journey was very different from most actors. After moving to Delhi for higher studies, he enrolled at Satyawati College and later attended Ramjas College, graduating with a degree in History. Coming from a farming family in Bihar, he faced years of struggle and rejection before finding success in the entertainment industry.

After working with renowned theatre director Barry John, Manoj was offered a well paying teaching position due to his talent and experience.

However, he chose to continue pursuing acting rather than take a secure academic career path. His persistence paid off, and he later became one of India's finest actors, delivering acclaimed performances in projects such as The Family Man.

Shreya Dhanwanthary

Shreya Dhanwanthary impressed audiences with her portrayal of journalist Sucheta Dalal in Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. Before entering the entertainment industry, she completed a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from NIT Warangal.

Rather than following the traditional corporate route after graduation, Shreya chose acting and moved to Mumbai to audition for roles. Her decision eventually led to successful projects such as Scam 1992 and The Family Man.
