With Ramayana shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious productions, actor-co-producer Yash has a pointed message for audiences: don’t let minor VFX flaws overshadow the bigger vision. At the film’s pre-release event in Hyderabad on October 19, the actor urged fans to look beyond small imperfections and support the film’s attempt to take Indian cinema to the global stage.
Warning that losing visionaries like producer Namit Malhotra could set the industry back by years, Yash appealed to audiences across the country to watch the epic with an open mind.
A video from the event has been circulating on social media, with Yash appealing to fans across industries to rally behind the film and its producer, Namit Malhotra. The actor, who plays Raavan in the two-part epic, said projects of this scale required commitment and that losing people willing to invest in such a vision could set the industry back by years.
“One thing I will tell you. Please don’t try to find small faults of VFX, this, that. It will never happen again. If we lose people like him (Namit Malhotra) now, it will take more years. We will go back. So let’s see with an open mind,” Yash said.
He also asked cinema lovers from Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi industries to come together and support the film. Yash said audiences should give the project a chance and, if they liked it, help showcase it to the world.
Yash praises Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra
At the event, Yash spoke about Malhotra’s commitment to bringing Indian cinema to the global stage. He described the producer as someone whose ambition went beyond commercial success and said his dedication was a key reason for their collaboration.
“Anybody can make a movie. Anybody can dream of making a film. But only a few people will have that kind of passion, dedication, determination and madness. As Indians, I am telling you, we need to protect this guy. It’s our responsibility,” the KGF star said.
Yash recalled his conversations with Malhotra in Los Angeles, where the producer spoke about wanting Indian cinema to achieve greater international recognition despite his own professional success.
“Every time I met him in LA, he always spoke about one thing — ‘We all are doing so much here. Indians have done so much. But we should do it for our Indian film industry. I am getting Oscars. But I am not happy. I want our industry to be placed in that level. That is the day I will be happy,’ is what he told,” Yash said.
He added that Malhotra’s vision convinced him to join the project as both an actor and a producing partner.
“That is the day I collaborated with him. I said, ‘Let’s do whatever it takes because that is the most important vision.’ Yes, I’ll play Ravana. Yes, I’ll be producing partner. And from that day, this man has given me all the respect,” he said.
Yash also noted that Malhotra had been receptive to criticism and corrections, and had consistently tried to improve the project. His appeal to audiences, therefore, was not to dismiss criticism altogether, but to approach the film with an open mind and recognise the scale of the effort behind it.
