The trailer of Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, is out and has drawn mixed reactions on X. The sports action drama was unveiled by the makers in Mumbai on Monday. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film presents Charan as Peddi, a village favourite who is both a sporting icon and a leader for his people.
The divide in response was visible soon after the trailer dropped. While some users praised Charan's presence and some of the trailer's mass moments, others questioned the cut, the visual effects and the overall impact. A few also said they hoped the final film would work better than the trailer.
Reaction to Peddi trailer
Among those who liked the trailer, one X user wrote, "RC redemption loading (sic)." Another praised a transition shot and posted, "Damn crazy mass transition (sic)."
Some others were less impressed. One user asked, "Trailer evadraa cut chesaadu (Who edited this trailer?) (sic)" Another wrote, "Very very average looking trailer. Didn't live up to the hype Chikiri (the first song from the film) and RRR has created (sic)."
A third user criticised the same shot that was being praised by others and wrote, "And people are praising this shot for its transition. Honestly, this is why Tollywood is ripping people off by selling 10 items for 1000. Wishing FX's and movie to be better in the final product (sic)."
One account shared a longer reaction. It said it hoped #Peddi would be "emotional, entertaining, inspiring, satisfying, heartwarming, and filled with strong highs, goosebumps, and proud moments". At the same time, the user said there were concerns about "the heroine track, the pacing and narration, the world-building, and how effectively the film immerses the audience into its world".
The post added that the film still had the potential to deliver a memorable and impactful experience if everything came together well.
Replying to that post, another user wrote, "My concern is the music, BGM (background music), and the heroine. Janhvi Kapoor's character is going to be unwanted of course. She is used just for glamour every time. And music, I don't know that, will AR Rahman be able to make it well like Sai Abhyankar or at least if he tried (sic)."
What the trailer shows
The three-minute trailer introduces Peddi as a sporting star in a rural setting. It moves through cricket, wrestling and running, keeping him at the centre of each arena. In one moment, actor Boman Irani asks a group of youngsters about their favourite player. No matter the sport, the answer is the same: Peddi.
The trailer also shows Charan in different physical looks, from a lean cricketer to a heavily built wrestler. In one line, Peddi says, "The game itself is in my arrogance," underlining his confidence. Janhvi appears as Achiyyamma, and Peddi calls her a "star that fell from the sky."
Beyond sport, the trailer hints at a village facing oppression from powerful figures, with Peddi stepping in as a protector. It also suggests that the story moves beyond the village, with glimpses of Delhi. In the closing line, Peddi says, "You all think I played, but what I actually did was fight, sir." The film also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma and Ravi Kishan, with a special appearance by Boman Irani. Music has been composed by AR Rahman.
Peddi is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 4, with premiere shows planned a day earlier, in multiple languages.
