- Matt Reeves teases The Batman: Part 2 with a winter setting
- Key cast members including Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell return
- Sequel set for theatrical release on October 1, 2027
Filmmaker Matt Reeves has offered an early glimpse into The Batman: Part 2, hinting that the sequel may head into colder territory.
Reeves posted what appears to be the first official production tease on X on Thursday – a moody image of the Batmobile accompanied by the caption “#SnowTires”. While the visual reveals little, it appears to be from a camera test and suggests that the long-awaited sequel could be set during winter.
Here's the post:
The sequel brings back several key cast members from The Batman. Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, alongside Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (The Penguin), Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan is also expected to return as the Joker.
The upcoming instalment has also expanded its cast. Scarlett Johansson joins as Gilda Dent, while Sebastian Stan will play Harvey Dent. Charles Dance, known for Game of Thrones, is also part of the film and is believed to be portraying Charles Dent, Harvey’s father.
Released in 2022, The Batman followed a younger Bruce Wayne, just two years into his vigilante journey, as he became entangled in a dark murder mystery. The film featured Paul Dano as the Riddler, who targeted Gotham’s elite and left cryptic clues for Batman.
The film went on to earn about $772 million worldwide against a reported budget of $185–200 million, emerging as the seventh highest-grossing film of that year.
Reeves has co-written the sequel with Mattson Tomlin. Speaking to Variety last year, Reeves described the process as a long journey and expressed pride in the script. The film is currently slated for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
