Actor Rakul Preet Singh has once again reacted to the online chatter around her marriage to producer Jackky Bhagnani, this time with humour. She shared a light-hearted Instagram Stories video after a remark made by the couple in a recent interview drew attention on social media.

In that interview, Jackky had described their marriage as a ‘situationship’, a phrase that quickly became the focus of discussion online. The latest post came after Rakul had already addressed the matter in an earlier Instagram note.

Jackky apologises to Rakul

In the Instagram Stories clip shared on Saturday, Rakul was seen speaking to Jackky about the remark and the reaction that followed. She said, “Kitne baar bola hai isko, that we are millennials, Gen Z banne ki zarurat nahi hain! Bola tha na (I have told you so many times that we are millennials, and there is no need to be a Gen Z. Didn't I)?”

Jackky stood beside her, holding his ears, and then smiled as he apologised. “Kar diya na tumne (See what has happened now)?” he said. He added, “Magar maine aise nahi bola tha (But I had not intended it in that way)!”

Rakul replied, “I know, but the world needs to know! But theek hai (it is okay). She added that since the social media users are not stopping, they thought they would also laugh about it.

In the caption, she wrote, “Ho gaya aap log ka bhi ab (Are you guys done too? Now) laugh about it and move on.”

Rakul's clarification

Earlier, Rakul had addressed the issue in a separate Instagram Stories note. Sharing a screenshot of the statement that went viral, she said one line from a much longer conversation had been isolated and amplified.

“We had a great laugh today about how one line from an hour-long conversation can suddenly become the headline. Funny... until it’s not. Context matters. Nuance matters. Conversation deserve better than being reduced to clickbait. Maybe it’s time platforms take a little more responsibility for the narratives they create (sic),” she wrote.

She also suggested that Jackky’s words did not reflect the full context of what he meant in the interview.

The situationship row

The remark that triggered the discussion was made during the couple’s interview on the YouTube channel Zingabad.

Speaking about their marriage, Jackky said, “Rakul and I are married, but we are like in a situationship, which is, of course, we are exclusive to each other, because that’s why we are married. But the most important thing is that I can talk to her about anything.”

He also said that both he and Rakul had seen enough ups and downs in life and were not looking for someone to fill a void. To explain the transparency in their relationship, he gave the example of answering a call from an ex-girlfriend on speaker if his wife was around.

Rakul and Jackky dated for three years before getting married on February 21, 2024, in Goa.

Her latest post appeared to close the loop on the discussion, while also repeating her point that the full conversation should be seen in context.
