According to reports, Rajinikanth and director Mani Ratnam are set to reunite for an upcoming film, marking their first collaboration in 33 years. Fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement, which is expected to be made on Rajinikanth’s birthday, December 12. While the news remains unconfirmed, social media is abuzz with excitement, with fans hoping the reports are true.

This potential reunion comes after a 36-year gap for Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, who are working together again on the film Thug Life following their 1987 hit Nayakan. If the reports are accurate, the collaboration with Rajinikanth will be the director’s second time working with the superstar since their 1991 blockbuster Thalapathi.

Thalapathi, which starred Rajinikanth and Mammootty, was a critically acclaimed and commercially successful film that adapted the Mahabharata’s friendship between Karna and Duryodhana to a contemporary setting. Rajinikanth portrayed Surya, representing Karna, while Mammootty played Devaraj, representing Duryodhana. The film also starred Arvind Swami, Amrish Puri, and Bhanupriya, among others.

Fans of both Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam are eagerly awaiting more information, with many hoping this reunion will recreate the magic of their previous collaboration.

Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam is currently working on Thug Life, featuring an ensemble cast, while Rajinikanth will soon be seen in Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and others. He is also set to star in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie with Shruti Haasan and Nagarjuna.

An official confirmation of Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam’s new project is yet to be made.
