Actor Nivetha Pethuraj, who made her return to Telugu cinema with the 94-year-old director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao's musical Sing Geetham, after a brief hiatus of three years, has revealed that she had seriously considered stepping away from films in 2023.
Speaking at the film's success meet in Hyderabad, Nivetha revealed that she had decided to quit acting in 2023 and had already begun imagining a life away from cinema. The actor credited producer Nag Ashwin, who bankrolled Sing Geetham, for getting her back to cinema.
Thanking him for giving her the opportunity to be part of Sing Geetham, Nivetha said he had "brought her back to life." She added, jokingly, that had the offer not come her way, she might have ended up "meditating somewhere in the Himalayas" and living a completely different life.
Without going into the reasons behind the decision, the actor said life often takes people down unexpected paths and that she never imagined she would find herself returning to the big screen.
Nivetha also spoke about watching Sing Geetham for the first time and said she was unexpectedly moved by the experience. She also expressed her gratitude to director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and composer Devi Sri Prasad, saying she still finds it hard to believe that she became part of the musical.
Directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and produced by Nag Ashwin under the banners of Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, Sing Geetham, a unique attempt at a musical genre, was released on June 12 and has been receiving a positive response from critics.
