Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar has responded sharply to social media criticism after sharing pictures from her daughter Avantika's wedding celebrations, which coincided with the death of filmmaker and actor K Bhagyaraj.

The backlash began after Khushbu posted a candid photograph with husband Sundar C, from their daughter's wedding in Goa. A social media user questioned the timing of the post, writing, "Is this post really required now? When the state is mourning the loss of Bhagyaraj sir."

Khushbu did not hold back in her response, saying, "Why follow me then?? Only to criticise?? My daughter got married not even 48 hours before. And who knows Poornima better? You or me?? If you find it difficult, stop following me. I am better off without people like you. I have all the right to be happy."

Why did Khushbu's post spark criticism?

The criticism came shortly after news broke that K Bhagyaraj had died on Saturday following a cardiac arrest. He was 73. As tributes poured in from across the Tamil film industry, videos from Avantika's wedding also resurfaced online, including one showing Bhagyaraj warmly greeting Chiranjeevi at the ceremony. The timing of the wedding pictures and the actor's death prompted mixed reactions on social media.

Despite the criticism, Khushbu also paid tribute to Bhagyaraj on Instagram. Sharing a photograph of the filmmaker, she wrote, "Rest in peace Sir. My funny moments with you will remain etched in my memory forever. I will miss you."

Who attended Avantika's wedding?

Khushbu and Sundar C's elder daughter, Avantika, married Shravan Sreenivasan in Goa on Thursday evening. The wedding turned into a star-studded affair, with Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Venkatesh, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Trisha Krishnan and Amala Akkineni among the guests in attendance.

What is K Bhagyaraj's legacy?

Bhagyaraj enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades as an actor, director, writer and producer. He was celebrated for films such as Andha 7 Naatkal, Mundhanai Mudichu, Chinna Veedu and Enga Chinna Rasa. He also directed the 1986 Hindi film Aakhree Raasta, starring Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role alongside Jaya Prada, Sridevi and Anupam Kher.

Bhagyaraj is survived by his wife, former actor Poornima, and their children, Shanthanu and Saranya.
