Actor Shah Rukh Khan, who lost his parents early in life, recently shared that he began working hard because he didn’t want his parents to feel they hadn’t provided for their young child. Shah Rukh’s father, Mir Taj Mohammed Khan, died when he was just a teenager, and his mother, Lateef Fatima Khan, died a decade later, when he was only 24.
Speaking at the Global Freight Summit held in Dubai, SRK said, "My parents died when I was young. My father, when I was 14. My mother, when I was 24. So, I lost them in a gap of 10 years. I had nowhere to go. I had a sister with me. Just the two of us left in this world."
Despite their death, the Jawan actor feels the presence of his parents around him. He said, “I felt one morning that maybe my parents are there somewhere... and I will meet up with them again for sure. They are stars in the sky, and I will meet them once."
This sense of having them around, looking at him from heaven, motivated Shah Rukh Khan to work harder, as he was worried they might be concerned about his well-being.
"But aren’t they worried right now? That, ‘Oh my God, what must be happening to my 24-year-old kid who has no sustenance?’ So I started working very hard, I became very determined to be successful because I didn’t want my parents to feel bad that they had not fended for me," the 59-year-old actor added.
Earlier, while speaking at the Locarno Film Festival, the actor mentioned that he makes larger-than-life films so his parents can watch them from heaven. He said, "My parents had passed away by the time I joined films; both of them were not alive. I don't know, for some reason, I always felt I’d make films that are very big, so that my mom and dad can see them from heaven.”
Last seen in the 2023 film Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan has Sujoy Ghosh’s King in his upcoming projects. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Suhana Khan.
