Harry Potter actor and Oscar-winning star Dame Maggie Smith died on September 27 at the age of 89. Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Ananya Panday, among other stars, paid tribute to the icon with moving posts on social media.

Priyanka shared a video of the actor on her Instagram story and wrote, “The end of an era. Rest in peace Dame Maggie Smith (sic).”

Kareena Kapoor shared a picture of the late actor and wrote 'Forever in Power' with a star and heart emoji. She also quoted Smith from Downtown Abbey and stated, "I am a woman dear. I can be as contrary as I choose."

Sonam Kapoor shared a picture of the Harry Potter actor and wrote, "What a dame what a lady and what a life."

Parineeti Chopra too paid tribute to the veteran actress and called her 'legend forever.'

Ananya Panday also showed her respect for the legendary actor with a special tribute on her Instagram story.

Smith's sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, shared the heartbreaking news in a statement. It reads, "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dame Maggie Smith. She left us peacefully in the early hours of September 27th, surrounded by loved ones at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Maggie was a fiercely private person, and in her final moments, she was with those closest to her. She leaves behind two sons and five adoring grandchildren, all deeply mourning the loss of their remarkable mother and grandmother."

Smith was frequently rated the preeminent British female performer of a generation that included Vanessa Redgrave and Judi Dench, with a clutch of Academy Award nominations and a shelf full of acting trophies.
