A woman in Haryana's Sonipat has accused her husband of concealing his religious identity and existing marriage before marrying her in a Hindu ceremony, alleging that he later subjected her to harassment and pressure to convert.

The woman, who said she first met the man through Instagram, has now approached the police, alleging that she was misled about his identity and that her husband and his family threatened and harassed her.

According to the woman, the man introduced himself as "Johnny" and identified himself as a Hindu when the two began talking on Instagram. Their friendship eventually turned into a relationship, after which they got married according to Hindu rituals and started living together as husband and wife.

The woman alleged that around six months after their marriage, she discovered that her husband's identity was different from what she had been told.

She claimed that she found an Aadhaar card in his bag bearing the name Javed Khan. According to her, she subsequently learned that the man she knew as Johnny belonged to the Muslim community and was already married.

The woman further alleged that Javed Khan, who is also a Sonipat residet, had been married around 12 years ago and had three children from his first marriage.

According to the woman, the matter escalated when Javed Khan's first wife arrived at the place where the couple was staying. She alleged that the first wife got into an argument with her and then took Javed with her.

The woman claimed that Javed returned a few days later and told her that his family was pressuring him not to continue living with her.

Despite this, she said, the two continued to live together and later moved to Uttar Pradesh. According to the woman, a child was born to the couple while they were living in UP's Budhana.

She said they subsequently returned to Sonipat and continued living there.

The woman has now alleged that her husband has been missing along with his family for around a week, and subsequently, she approached the local police station seeking legal action against her husband and his family.

In her complaint, she has also alleged that she and her children were being subjected to pressure to change their religion. She has accused her husband and his family of concealing his identity, assault, molestation and issuing threats.

A representative of the Hindu Raksha Sena organisation has also raised the matter and supported the woman's complaint. The woman and the organisation's representative have spoken about the allegations.

Police said they have received the woman's complaint and are investigating the matter. Both sides have been called to the police station in connection with the case.

The allegations made by the woman are yet to be established. Further action will depend on the findings of the police investigation.
