Jamie Overton has been one of the quickest bowlers in IPL 2026, and on Saturday at Chepauk, Tilak Varma found that out the hard way. The Mumbai Indians batter was struck on the wrist by a searing Overton delivery, the impact so fierce that it snapped his fitness band clean off.

Overton was introduced into the attack in the 12th over and wasted no time in making his presence felt. Bowling with his trademark pace and aggression, he challenged Tilak with a short delivery. The batter looked to be cheeky in response, shuffling across the crease and attempting a scoop. But he failed to get his shot aligned properly, and the ball crashed into his wrist where he wore a fitness band. The force of the impact sent it flying off.
The moment drew gasps from the crowd at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium and quickly went viral, serving as a vivid reminder of just how quick Overton can be when he is in full flow.

Tilak, to his credit, shrugged it off and continued his innings. But he could not quite find his footing in what was a difficult outing for Mumbai's middle order. He eventually fell for a top-edge trying to sweep a turning delivery, with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking a neat catch.
It was symptomatic of Mumbai's evening as a whole. They never found the authority or the momentum that their situation demanded. Naman Dhir top-scored with 57 off 37 balls in a lone-hand effort, but the rest of the batting crumbled around him. Captain Hardik Pandya's scratchy 18 off 23 balls only worsened matters. Mumbai finished with 159 for seven, a total that always looked below par on a Chepauk pitch offering little for the bowlers.
Chennai made short work of the chase. Ruturaj Gaikwad hit an unbeaten 67 off 48 balls, while Kartik Sharma chipped in with a composed 54 not out off 40 balls, his first IPL fifty, to guide CSK home with eight wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.
For Tilak, the fitness band was a small casualty of a difficult evening. For Mumbai, the damage ran far deeper.
