Actor Sadia Khateeb has dismissed plagiarism rumours around Daadi Ki Shaadi, saying the film was announced before a Pakistani telefilm of the same name was released. The film has recently drawn attention after speculation that it may have been inspired by the Pakistani telefilm, which reportedly aired in March 2026.

Headlined by Neetu Kapoor and Kapil Sharma, the film also marks the acting debut of Neetu’s daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. Directed by Ashish R Mohan, the film follows a family matriarch who unexpectedly falls in love and decides to remarry, leaving her family surprised.

Speaking to Mid-Day, Sadia rejected the comparisons and said the title of the Hindi film had been made public much earlier. She said, “We announced our title way before (in December 2025). We did so when we started shooting for the film, and this Pakistani (offering) came much later."

She also said the two stories were not the same. Addressing the rumours further, she said, “It’s not that we have copied from anyone. Our Daadi (protagonist) is not (similar to) what we have seen in their trailer. It’s a different plot."

The Pakistani family comedy with the same title has also reportedly explored late-life romance within a family setting.

Sadia also spoke about her experience of working with Neetu. She said, “She is such a delight to work with. Neetu ma’am doesn’t meet you with the baggage of her legacy; she keeps it real. She made everything easy, light, and fun for me."

Ahead of the film's theatrical release, the makers held a screening on May 5. It was attended by members of the Kapoor family, including Ranbir and Alia. Veteran actor Rekha was also spotted at the event.

Produced by Rtake Studios, BeingU Studios and Shimla Talkies Production, Daadi Ki Shaadi is set to release in theatres on May 8, 2026.
