If there was one person who wasn't going to let Alia Bhatt off easy on India's Got Latent Season 2, it was Samay Raina. The comedian kicked off the new season with actors Alia and Sharvari as special guests, but instead of rolling out the red carpet, he welcomed the Bollywood star with a roast that had the audience in splits.
Introducing Alia, 33, on the show, Samay jokingly called her the biggest celebrity to ever appear on Latent before delivering a punchline that quickly became one of the episode's standout moments. "She is the biggest guest we have had till now in Latent. Highest point of Latent, lowest point of her career," he quipped, leaving the audience laughing.
The episode marked Alia and Sharvari's appearance on the show as part of promotions for their upcoming film Alpha. Staying true to his trademark style, Samay continued to tease the actor throughout the conversation.
At one point, he joked, "Feeling nervous sitting next to you, big fan of your... husband," drawing laughs from both the guests and the audience.
The comedian also referenced Alia's global recognition, Cannes appearance and National Award-winning career before humorously questioning her decision to join the show.
Dig at Cannes appearance
"Why the f**k are you here? Why did you come to Latent? Kahan Cannes, kahan Latent. But yahan cameras aap pe hai (What a massive gap between Cannes and Latent. But here, at least here the cameras are actually focused on you)," he said, while taking a direct, unfiltered dig at the recent controversy surrounding the Jigra actor’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026.
Another joke that got a big reaction from the audience came when Samay asked Alia about her favourite state.
Dig at Koffee with Karan joke
As the actor paused for a moment to think of an answer, the comedian quickly jumped in, saying, "State poocha hai, President nahi" (I asked for your favourite state, not the President).
The joke was a playful nod to one of Alia's most viral moments on Koffee With Karan, where she famously struggled to answer a question about India's President. The clip continues to be referenced by fans even years later.
The banter didn't stop there. When Alia admitted that she was beginning to regret coming on the show, saying, "I am kinda regretting it right now," Samay was ready with another punchline.
"I regretted it too after watching Jigra," he joked, referring to Alia's 2024 film.
The remark appeared to catch Alia off guard, while Sharvari couldn't stop laughing. However, the actor quickly responded with a witty comeback of her own.
"At least you watched the film. Thank you for contributing," she said, earning cheers from the audience.
Joke on Sharvari's presence
Sharvari wasn't spared from Samay's humour either. Turning to the actor, he jokingly asked, "Who are you?" before introducing her as "Alia's plus one," leaving the audience in splits once again.
Later, when Samay asked Sharvari whether she had watched India's Got Latent, she replied with a smile, "I've watched it in clips and bits on news channels."
India’s Got Latent comeback
The second season of the Samay Raina show returned after the first season landed into controversy. It started off after Ranveer Allahbadia made a remark on Samay's India's Got Latent that many viewers found offensive. He asked a contestant whether they would rather watch their parents have sex every day for the rest of their lives or join in once to make it stop forever. The clip went viral and triggered widespread backlash online.
Multiple FIRs were filed against Ranveer and the show's producers, and the row also drew in Samay and other panelists.
India’s Got Latent Season 2 is being released simultaneously on YouTube and Netflix, with episodes available in the same format and duration on both platforms.
