The makers of The India Story have received a legal notice ahead of the film's release. The notice has been sent over claims made in the film's promotional material, with objections raised over its portrayal of Indian agriculture.
According to reports, Bhavesh Sodha of Agri Business Centre has objected to the film's teaser and promos, alleging that the promotional material contains scientifically unverified and misleading claims about Indian agriculture, dairy and poultry farming. The notice has also been sent to Zee Studios and MIG Production & Studios LLP.
The courtroom drama centres on food adulteration and its impact on public health. Starring Kajal Aggarwal and Shreyas Talpade, The India Story is scheduled to release in theatres on July 24, 2026.
The complainant has accused the filmmakers of presenting exaggerated claims regarding food adulteration, pesticide usage and cancer rates, while portraying India's farming sector as a 'slow poison' without sufficient scientific backing.
Among the objections are claims made in the teaser that Indian farmers excessively use pesticides and that a large portion of the country's milk supply is contaminated. The notice also questions a visual showing a syringe being injected into a chicken, calling it misleading and scientifically inaccurate. It further argues that the teaser links agricultural practices to rising cancer cases without credible evidence.
The complainant has demanded that the filmmakers disclose the research and scientific data supporting these claims. The notice also seeks the removal of the teaser and promotional material from online platforms and calls for changes to the film before its release.

A copy of the notice has reportedly been sent to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), urging it to withhold certification until the disputed content is either removed or substantiated.
The filmmakers have been given seven days to respond, failing which, the complainant has warned of civil and criminal proceedings, including a possible move to halt the film's release.
