Shah Rukh Khan breaks silence on King's clash with Avengers: Doomsday, Dune Part 3

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan addressed the clash of King with Avengers: Doomsday and Dune Part 3. He also shared updates on the trailer, VFX and music.

Shah Rukh Khan used his latest #AskSRK session on X on Tuesday to address one of the biggest questions around King. He shared whether he was worried about the film arriving in a crowded December release window alongside Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three. The actor also shared that the film is nearly complete and remains on course for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026.

The interaction came after the 60-year-old wished fans on Ganesh Chaturthi and invited them to join him for a light-hearted conversation. Over the session, he spoke about injuries that slowed the shoot, the wait for the trailer, work on the music and VFX, the scale of the action, and what he plans to do after King, while keeping the larger reveal for later.

Asked if King felt like the filling in a sandwich because of the films around it and whether the release date could move, Khan replied with humour: “Not at all....Baaki bread pieces ka bhi toh socho....hum toh centre ki tasty tikki hain (Spare a thought for the rest of the bread pieces, too... we are the tasty bun in the centre) (sic).”

King is due to release in theatres during a packed period. Along with Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, Nagarjuna’s 100th film, King100, has also been announced for December 24. The title and release date of King100 were unveiled on the actor’s 67th birthday, placing it on the same date as King.

Shoot, trailer and VFX

When asked about the most difficult part of making King, Khan said the production had not been smooth because injuries forced repeated pauses. He wrote, “Had a few injuries while shooting so had to start stop many times but now all broken is fixed...and nearly all done...so all good (sic).”

With the film now 100 days away from release, one fan asked what he most wanted to show audiences. Khan said he was looking forward to viewers experiencing the film in full rather than any one part of it. “Everything in King ...worked very hard to entertain as many as possible. The action, the songs, the actors and of course, my hair!!! (sic)” he wrote.

Questions on the trailer continued through the session. When asked why fans were still waiting, Khan said the team was taking time to prepare material that would do justice to the film. “Ab picture hi dekho na! Tarsa nahi raha join acchhi wali bana raha hoon....ke Dil ko tasalli mile....Sab ayega...Dec 24th se pehle (Just look at the picture! I’m not keeping you waiting; I’m crafting a really good one—something to truly satisfy the heart. It’s all coming... before the 24th). (sic),” he said.

Another fan jokingly asked whether Khan or director Siddharth Anand was behind the delay in the teaser or poster. Khan defended Anand and suggested he may be the one taking longer. “Sid toh bechara laga hua hai. Late bhai hain (The poor guy is at it, though. He's a bit slow, though)...taking time to put our best foot forward so u all enjoy it and feel proud and happy with King,” he wrote.

Khan also said he had been closely involved with the VFX work. “Troubling RC Vfx a lot. Sitting on Harry and Keiten head to deliver the best. I think they might ban me from coming to the office late nights soon,” he wrote.

Action, music and what comes next

Speaking about the film’s scale, Khan said the action had been mounted on a large canvas and credited Anand for the work, while adding that he hoped the emotional and comic moments would also appeal to audiences. “Yeah, the action is very big, and Sid has really worked hard on it. But I hope the emotions and comedy appeal to you all also,” he said.

He then joked about the shooting process, adding, “Ha ha main toh normally wire se latak raha hota hoon....harness pe! Sirf Director hi bolta hai...humari toh bolti bandh hot hai...also Sid shouts toooo loud so nobody can hear us only (Haha, I’m usually hanging from a wire—in a harness! Only the director speaks; the rest of us are rendered speechless. Plus, Sid shouts so loudly that no one can hear us anyway).”

On the music, Khan said a song could not be released immediately because Arijit Singh was still working on it. “Kar deta Abhi Arijit dada ko finishing touches dene hain (I'll get it done; Arijit da still needs to add the finishing touches). He is a perfectionist, takes some time rightfully,” he wrote.

When pressed again on the trailer, Khan said he was in no rush to reveal the film with 100 days still to go. “Abhi sirf baat karunga Trailer baad mein (For now, I'll just talk; the trailer comes later)....film is 100 days away na...Dec 24th bro (I'll just talk for now; the trailer comes later... the film is 100 days away, you know...December 24th, bro),” he replied.

Asked what he plans to do after King, Khan did not disclose his next project and instead answered, “Pata nahi Abhi toh King Akela Kaafi hai (Who knows? For now, the ‘King’ alone is enough).”

King stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and also features Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Arshad Warsi and Anil Kapoor. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, the film is scheduled to release on December 24.
