Varun Dhawan has spoken about Salman Khan's late-night social media posts, saying they reflect the superstar's real personality rather than a carefully curated public image. In an industry where, he said, many actors struggle with loneliness, Dhawan stressed the importance of staying true to oneself.
In a conversation with Bombay Times, Dhawan spoke about the pressures of fame and why he has never believed in putting on a facade. Referring to Salman Khan's candid online presence, he said those seemingly unfiltered posts show someone simply being themselves.
"Actors' lives are very lonely. Ninety percent of actors are very lonely," said Varun.
Referring to Salman’s unhinged late-night posts, the 39-year-old actor said, "When I see Salman bhai's posts at night, he's going into another zone only."
Dhawan stressed the importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself despite public scrutiny.
"You've got to be yourself, whether that's good or bad, but at least you'll be yourself. Otherwise, you won't even realise what you've become," he added.
The Coolie No 1 actor also reflected on how social media has changed the way celebrities present themselves. He said that actors today are far more conscious of public perception, but added that there is little point in constantly worrying about being judged.
"Now, people are getting more conscious because of social media. But what's the most that can happen? They'll cancel you," he said.
Dhawan also looked back on his early days in the industry and said that ever since he made his debut with Karan Johar's 2012 film Student of the Year, he has consciously chosen not to create a fake public image.
"I try not to do that. My mental health will go for a toss," he concluded.
